Shakespeare in real life

On Monday, 06/29/2015, thirteen students of different English advanced courses of the MSS’13 and their teachers Mrs. Escher-Apsner and Mr. Schmitz visited an English-speaking performace of William Shakespeare’s „The Merchant of Venice“ in Bourglinster, Luxembourg.
The famous play deals with the struggle of the Venecian Bassanio who has to upbring money to marry his love Portia. His dear friend Antonio lends this money for him at the local jewish moneylender whose proposed bond is to cut half a pound of flesh out of Antonio’s body if this man doesn’t give it back in time. Of course problems appear to be inevitable.
After the arrival in the remarkable small town of Bourglinster, we had the chance to watch the performance via sitting on lawn chairs and observing the play on a small, plain stage. However, the location was great, a medieval castle in the background and excellent audio conditions. Furthermore, the actors showed much talent, conveying, for example, an atmosphere full of hatred and religious discords.
Our trip to Luxembourg had been a great experience of the Shakespearean language with a lot of fun for all participants. Thanks to Mrs. Escher-Apsner and Mr. Schmitz for organizing such an event!
